Tours
Guided Tours of J Ward are conducted every day of the year except Christmas Day.
A normal tour will take 1-1.5 hours. Most of our guides will spend much longer than this with anybody who wants to hear more stories or who has questions to ask. It should be noted that the guides do not have access to records or have knowledge of former patients or medical procedures.
- Monday - Saturday
- 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm (except Christmas Day)
Due to limited availability of the volunteer staff admission may not be possible after the tour has started. - Sundays, Vic. Public and Vic. School Holidays
- 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm
Admission is not limited to these times and there is plenty to do and see while waiting for a tour to start. Light refreshments are available.
Night tours are available on request. Groups of 10 or more people are preferred. The cost is $20 per head or a minimum of $120 per tour. Please phone J Ward to arrange a Night Tour to suit you.
Bookings for groups of ten or more can be accommodated at practically any time.
Bus tours, schools and clubs etc are all most welcome at J Ward. Although macabre in places the history of J Ward is generally not disturbing because of its simple truth. Many schools come here with each year's new class.
J Ward is an historic building and as such might appear to be unwelcoming to mobility impaired visitors. We have had many wheelchair conveyed groups successfully tour J Ward. If booking for a group with movement difficulties please inform us at the time of booking.
Entry can be arranged for wheel chairs at any time. A tour normally involves limited stair climbing but it can easily be avoided.
A conference room is available for seminars.
